Jiquiriçá Valley
The region of Jiquiriçá Basin is located about 150km west of Salvador.
Besides agriculture, its main economical base, tourism came to be an
important alternative for the generation of income for the cities of
this touristic region, where presence of waterfalls, rivers, hills and
exuberant flora and fauna has arose the interest of innumerous
visitors, from the ones looking for contact with nature to the ones
that prefer extreme and adventure sports, such as horse riding,
trekking, canoeing and fishing. The historical/cultural heritage is
also rich and diverse and its crafts made with care, form together a
range of attractions capable of pleasing regional tourists interested
in interacting with the local nature and culture.
As it occurs
in other regions of Bahia , where rural tourism finds a socio-cultural
environment that is very favorable to its expansion, specially in those
properties where the natural resources - such as native forests,
springs and rivers - are preserved; in the Jiquiriçá Valley it's still
possible to find farms that keep remarkable features of a time when the
agricultural economy was predominant in the productive structure of the
state. This kind of tourism constitutes an important alternative source
of income for rural producers. The touristic zone of the Jiquiriçá
Valley is formed by six cities, Jiquiriçá, Laje, Mutuípe, Santa Inês,
Ubaíra and Amargosa.
