Day of the Samba
When: 1st to the 2nd of December
On the 2nd of December we celebrate the National Day of the Samba. The festival was iniciated by the Chamber of Councilmen in Salvador, in 1940, in homage to the composer Ary Barroso, who, the year before, had released the single “Aquarela do Brasil” (Watercolour of Brazil), the Brazilian song most well-known, performed and re-recorded outside of Brazil. Every year there is a Commemorative Show of the Day of the Samba, in a public square, the Terreiro de Jesus, situated in the Pelourinho.
