GLBT tourism in Trancoso

In Porto Seguro a good option for GLBT tourism is the famous and paradisiacal beach of Trancoso. It has accommodation and places where these tourists may feel comfortable. Inns like Bahia Bonita, which has a staff specially prepared to deal with the public without any kind of prejudice, and Etnia Brasil Inn, considered one of the best in Brazil. Another option is Seis e Meia Inn, also gay-friendly; it’s a very cozy place with maximum capacity for 30 people, in big huts for five, three or two people.
The structure of Bahia Bonita Inn is another attraction. It offers bar and lounge right on the sand, which invite visitors to take off their shoes and try one of the delicious drinks or enjoy the romantic atmosphere on candlelight dinner in an environment totally integrated to nature. The decoration provides maximum comfort, without loosing the rustic and tranquil atmosphere of Trancoso. The inn also offers ecological tours, kayaks, horse rides and golf course, besides massage, car rental and beauty treatments.
The touristic Center of the village is the "Quadrado Histórico” (Historical Square), considered a paradise by locals, where everything is allowed. The place is really a melting pot where everybody gathers in calm waves of people from all over the world and different parts of Brazil. Restaurants, bars, crafts shops, atelier and inns occupy the buildings of the Discovery times. Only those who have the opportunity to, at the end of a sunny afternoon, sit on one of the colorful chairs of the Quadrado and watch the capoeira circle that is formed, the soccer match, the horse rides, besides watching time going by in the golden shades of sunset and in the movements of children playing can understand the true charm of the village.
In the evening, a good option is enjoying the candle illumination of the Quadrado, drinks and music. To be taken back to the imaginary scenery of paradise, you only need to look at the sky and observe the stars. Those looking for a more lively vibe can go to the disco Para-Raio (restaurant and discotheque), with DJs from all over the world, the show house São Brás or Tostex, considered the most sought after beach kiosk of the summer, at Coqueiros Beach.
Eating out can be a pleasant experience at Trancoso. The restaurant Portinha serves food prepared on wood oven and reminds us of granny’s food, but it’s typical and spicy. Maritaca pizza place specializes in thin, crispy pizzas. Another option is the restaurant El Gordo, which is located at the Quadrado and has a spectacular view; Portuguese and international cuisine for those who want to spend a little more on a special meal. And for those who don’t mind the style of the cuisine, Cacau Restaurant serves varied food, for all tastes and it’s also a good place for a romantic evening. There’s also Il Mercato, one of the most beautiful restaurants of Trancoso, the back patio has a view for the forest and Nativos Beach – extremely beautiful at sunset.
Iemanjá is one of the shopping options, they sell saints and Orixás in wood, ceramic and metal, all handmade and some with internal light. There are plenty of crafts shops. There’s one two blocks away from the Quadrado, with sculptures in wood. Trancoso is an invitation to relaxation; to best seize the day it’s a good idea to get up early, walk a little and go to the beach. The main one is a sand stretch divided by different “beaches”: Coqueiros, Verde, Nativos…to get there, go down the trail that starts at the Quadrado; walk five minutes and you’ll reach the pier, after crossing it, you will reach the sands of Trancoso. At each kilometer of beach there are at least two beach kiosks, all with chairs, hammocks, sofas and beds. If you don’t want to stop in any of them, keep walking.
