Catholic believers celebrate Saint Lucy this Saturday (13/12)
This Saturday (13) is time to celebrate Saint Lucy, the patron saint for eyes. The festivity in honor of the saint takes place at Our Lady Pilar Church (downtown Salvador), with a special program. This celebration is part of Bahia’s festival calendar.
A reveille with fireworks at 5:00am announces the festivities that go on throughout the day with masses at 6:00am, 8:00am, 2:00pm, 3:00pm and 5:00pm. At 10:00am a solemn mass will be carried out, followed by a cortege along the main streets of the district.
The festivities end on Sunday (14), when believers will participate in another Eucharistic celebration, at 9:00am. The tribute to Saint Lucy started on Wednesday (10), with a festive triduum.
Besides participating in masses and cortege, believers wash their eyes in Saint Lucy’s Fountain, located next to the church, whose water is considered miraculous.
