Valença

Colonial city of the second half of the 18th century, Valença has a valuable architectonic and cultural heritage, present in its stone paved streets, in the colonial mansions and in the ruins of the old textile factory.

The former residence of the Commander Madureira, Nossa Senhora do Amparo Church and the Sacred Heart Mother Church, with sacred images of the 18th and 19th centuries, are the highlights of the city. The vast natural heritage includes 15 kilometers of beaches, impressive waterfalls, beautiful islands, Una River and a vast mangrove. The city is also a big crafts center of naval construction; for those who wish to explore the region’s nature it’s a good idea to hire schooners for tours through the archipelago until Morro de São Paulo and Boipeba.
